About Us
Think. Create. Educate.
Spectra is a global non-profit platform for high schoolers to share work and spark discussions in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, otherwise condensed as “STEM”. Because high school research in science and mathematics (which is accessible only through camps/programs) is underappreciated worldwide, Spectra’s vision is to encourage students’ writing in STEM and to voice their works to a global audience. As emphasis, our organization cordially welcomes all high schoolers, and our staff currently spans the Pacific Ocean, with students from South Korea and the United States in 6 different schools.
From the more prominent communications and research/writing to the behind-the-scenes editing and media design, each member of the Spectra management contributes something valuable to the publication process. This begins with the student writers, who draft articles on any STEM topic they choose, from classroom subjects like mathematics, biology, and terrestrial science, to career-oriented topics like cosmology, psychology, economics, anthropology, and engineering. Then, the student writers’ works are repeatedly revised and improved upon by student editors and sometimes professionals of the investigated field of study. The collaborative process culminates in an article or research paper that is proudly published on this website and then popularized through our Facebook page, Spectra Publications, as sources of information available to all.
SPECTRA FOUNDER
FOUNDER OF PUBLICATION:
Muchang B.
Muchang B. (KIS ‘19) is the founder of Spectra Publications. Since childhood, he has had a strong interest in mathematics and physical sciences, participating in multiple competitions in both middle and high school. His interest began to shift to conducting in-depth research papers, including number theory topics such as the Collatz Conjecture and prime number sequences—and in January 2018, Muchang founded Spectra, a website where he and his peers could publish their own works online. Muchang envisions Spectra to be an expansive database that emphasizes complete flexibility on the topic and format of each piece of work, ranging from informal blog posts about conspiracy theories about the moon to professionally reviewed research papers explaining groundbreaking findings in a recent biochemistry experiment. In addition to working on his research, Muchang has been on his school volleyball team since Freshman year and has actively participated in a local volunteer program called Suji Boys Town. Besides STEM, Muchang also has interests towards entrepreneurship, creative writing, and philosophy.
